School of Communication
Mission/Vision Statement

The School of Communication is a premier school that provides students with a rigorous academic curriculum and a rich learning environment with emphasis in the field of communication. Our students will be prepared for post-secondary education, the world of work, and leadership in communication careers as active participants and responsible citizens in a multicultural society.

Our students explore the field of communication through interdisciplinary and theme-based projects.  Students receive the practical experience they need for success in college and future careers through job shadows and internships with our professional business partners which include the Gaslamp Quarter Association, KPBS Public Broadcasting, San Diego Film Festival, 24K International Realty and Funding Group, University of San Diego, Media Arts Center San Diego and San Diego Property Service Incorporated.We offer all A-G college courses in English, mathematics, science, social sciences, and foreign language.  Students also have the opportunity to take electives in one of two communications pathways, Media Production and Film and Video.  The Media Production pathway includes electives in Computer Applications in Business and Art and ROP courses such as Computer Graphic Design, Web Design and Screen Printing.  The Film and Video pathway includes Video Production and ROP courses  such as Multimedia Production and Broadcast Journalism.Students can also take courses offered to all San Diego High Educational Complex students such as Yearbook, Journalism, JROTC, ASB, and Band.  All students can participate in school wide activities such as Homecoming, Prom, and football games and have access to the Library and Student Center for college and career counseling.Unique activities at the School of Communication include news reporting by the Broadcast Journalism students for the campus wide television audience, Screen Printing services, a Spring College Tour, after school programs funded by the 21st Century Learning grant such as the Soccer Club and participation in the School of Communication student government.
